In Quarter 1 of 2013, North Ossetia had no victims of armed conflict

In January, February and March 2013, no victims of the continued armed conflict in Northern Caucasus were registered in the territory of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania (RNO-A). These are the data of the "Caucasian Knot", based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

In February, it became known about detention in the North-Ossetian city of Mozdok of an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Karachay-Cherkessia, suspected of illegal circulation of explosives. The name of the policeman, suspected of selling explosives, is not specified; however, according to the MIA of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR), he was in the position of Senior Lieutenant of Internal Service of the MIA of the KChR; and from October of 2012 he was on mission in North Ossetia as a member of a special operative group.

According to calculations of the "Caucasian Knot", in 2012, in North Ossetia at least 14 persons fell victim to the armed conflict; of them at least seven were killed and seven other persons were wounded. More than half of the victims of the conflict in 2012 in North Ossetia were employees of power bodies: one was killed and seven wounded. Also, at least two civilians and four persons declared to be militants fell victim to the conflict. All of them were killed.

In 2011, according to calculations of the "Caucasian Knot", based on the data of our own correspondents and information from other open sources, at least 14 persons fell victim to the armed conflict in North Ossetia, of whom four were killed and 10 more were wounded.

In 2010, in the territory of the RNO-A, 24 persons were killed and 171 persons were wounded as a result of terror acts, explosions and shelling. These victims comprised employees of law-enforcement bodies, militants and civilians.

The readers should understand that the above statistics is unable to reflect, with a 100-percent precision, the number of victims under each of the categories specified in the report. Not all the data gets into news reports. It is not always possible to check the truthfulness of the statements made by law-enforcement bodies.
