FSB Director reports solution of recent resonant terror acts

As reported by Alexander Bortnikov, Director of the Russian FSB (Federal Security Bureau), at the sitting of the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC), 26 members of the terrorist group, which organized blowing up of the "Neva-Express" train in November 2009, were liquidated, and 14 more were detained.

The "Caucasian Knot" reported earlier that on March 2-3 a special operation on detection and liquidation of suspected militants was conducted in Ekazhevo village. As a result of the operation, six militants were killed and 16 more detained.

According to Mr Bortnikov, in the places of residence of the suspects of blowing up the train "weighty evidences" were found of their participation in the crime. He also added that the liquidated and detained criminals were involved in more than 50 terror acts against power agents, the "Interfax" reports.

The head of the FSB also said that as to the terror acts in Moscow metro and Kizlyar, not only executors and organizers have been established, but also their helpers. Now, according to his story, power agents "undertake the necessary operative-search and investigatory actions," while the state prepares "a preventive and tough answer to terrorists," the ITAR-TASS reports.

Concerning preventive measures for ensuring citizens' safety, Mr Bortnikov said the following: "We need to start a more systemic information and propaganda work with particular groups of the population, most perceptible to ideology of extremism, first of all, with young people, by using the potentials of antiterrorist commissions and involving clergymen and activists of public associations."

The "Caucasian Knot" reported earlier that Russian President Dmitri Medvedev ordered to set up, before April 19, a separate permanent operative group in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) to be engaged in antiterrorist activities. Along with Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliev and head of the Russian ICPO Alexander Bastrykin, FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov was appointed to be a founder of the above group.
