A doctor at a children's medical center in Novorossiysk faced threats over the death of a patient.

An employee of a medical center in Novorossiysk is being threatened with violence by relatives of an eight-year-old boy who died of anaphylactic shock, doctors said, demanding that lynching be prevented. The patient's death is being investigated under the criminal code of causing death by negligence.

The Novomed Children Medical Center issued a public statement in response to threats received by doctor Elena Krylosova from relatives of a patient who died of anaphylactic shock, Kommersant reported today.

An official statement was posted on May 15 on the website of the Novomed Children Medical Center (OOO Novomed N) in response to calls received "to the call center seeking the doctor's personal information."

He is being directly threatened with violence by the patient's relatives.

"The MC team makes an official statement to the public and "to law enforcement agencies in defense of doctor Elena Aleksandrovna Krylosova, who is being directly threatened with violence by the relatives of a patient who tragically died of anaphylactic shock," the statement reads.

The medical center's specialists "acted strictly in accordance with medical protocols and standards of medical care," the publication states.

"The full scope of resuscitation measures was carried out immediately after the patient's condition worsened. An investigation is currently underway to establish the true cause of death and all circumstances relevant to the case. We consider it unacceptable to lynch law, call for aggression against employees of a medical organization, or exert psychological pressure. A doctor should not live and work in fear for their life and the lives of their loved ones," the medical center stated.

The doctor appealed to the internal affairs agencies with a demand to ensure safety.

Reports have been transferred to law enforcement agencies. "Materials regarding death threats" for the legal assessment of the actions of those threatening violence, the center's publication noted. "The MC administration was forced to strengthen security measures on the medical center's premises. The doctor contacted the internal affairs agencies with a request to ensure the safety of herself and her family," the statement read.

Clinic management initiated an internal investigation

The patient's sudden death occurred on May 12, according to another statement on the medical center's website.

Resuscitation and intensive care were performed, including in collaboration with the ambulance crew.

"Doctors and nursing staff took all necessary measures stipulated by medical care standards. Resuscitation and intensive care were performed, including in collaboration with the Novorossiysk ambulance crew. Unfortunately, despite the medical team's efforts, the patient could not be saved," the statement reads.

Novomed N LLC has initiated an internal investigation "to thoroughly analyze all stages of care," the statement notes. "We are providing full cooperation to law enforcement agencies, who are conducting an investigation into this incident," the doctors stated.

Boy's Death Leads to Criminal Case

The deceased was an eight-year-old boy, and a criminal case has been opened in connection with his death, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Krasnodar Territory reported on its website on May 13.

"The Investigative Department for the city of Novorossiysk of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Krasnodar Territory has opened a criminal case into the death of an eight-year-old boy in a private medical center on the grounds of a crime under Part 2 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence)," the publication stated.

According to investigators, the minor patient died at the medical center on May 12 "as a result of inadequate medical care." "The necessary investigative actions are being taken, medical records are being reviewed, a forensic examination has been ordered, and other necessary investigative actions are being conducted," investigators reported.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in November 2019, an 18-year-old Krasnodar resident was admitted to the hospital with a diagnosis of acute appendicitis. The patient underwent surgery, but based on the results of the examination of the removed appendix, the young man was diagnosed with cancer. As a result, a portion of the intestine was removed, but it was later discovered that the material submitted for examination belonged to another patient, and there was no need for a second operation.

The Pervomaisky District Court of Krasnodar ordered the emergency hospital to pay 5 million rubles in compensation for moral damages to the patient. The Krasnodar Regional Court heard an appeal and reduced the compensation amount by more than five times, to 950,000 rubles. The lawyer called this decision unfounded.
