Protesters in Tbilisi congratulated Mzia Amaglobeli on his birthday.

The rally of supporters of Georgia's European integration on Rustaveli Avenue took place for the 531st consecutive day, despite heavy rain.

As "Caucasian Knot" reported, on May 11, the 530th day of continuous protests, participants in the rally on Rustaveli Avenue called on Georgian citizens to rise up against the dictatorship and expressed support for arrested "Coalition for Change" activist Tata Peradze. Participants in daily meetings outside the Georgian Parliament also support the demands of parents seeking the purchase of modern medicine for children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Supporters of Georgia's European integration, carrying national and EU flags, gathered outside the Parliament today for the 531st consecutive evening. Activists took shelter under umbrellas and the building's canopy during heavy rain.

The activists held signs reading: "Together we will win: march to parliament on May 26," "Thank you to the heroes for freedom," "Fight before it's too late," and "Leave," according to posts by photographer Mo Se and Georgian media on Facebook*.

One of the signs was dedicated to the convicted founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti, Mzia Amaglobeli, who turned 51 today: "From Rustaveli Avenue, we congratulate Mzia on her birthday."

Amaglobeli's colleagues and friends congratulated her on her birthday during a rally they held outside the prison today. Activists who came to the facility with slogans reading "Freedom for Mzia!" faced resistance from representatives of the penitentiary service, who claimed that “establishing contact with a prisoner” would be an administrative offense, writes Publika.

In early August 2025, a court in Batumi sentenced Mzia Amaglobeli, founder of the publications "Batumelebi" and "Netgazeti," to two years in prison for assaulting Batumi Police Chief Irakli Dgebuadze, whom she slapped. Amaglobeli's charges were reduced at the final stage of the trial; the original charge carried a sentence of four to seven years in prison.  

On the night of January 12, 2025, 10 people were detained in Batumi, including Mzia Amaglobeli. Amaglobeli was arrested for posting a poster she had pasted on the wall with with a call to start a general strike. When Amaglobeli was released, she found herself in a crush where an incident occurred involving the city's police chief, Irakli Dgebuadze. According to a silent video published by the Imedi TV channel, Amaglobeli, surrounded and held by police, said something to Dgebuadze, who responded and turned away. Amaglobeli sharply pulled him back and slapped him. After this, the journalist was detained again, according to the Caucasian Knot report "The Case of Mzia Amaglobeli: Circumstances of the Arrest and the Campaign in Defense of the Journalist".

Protesters in Georgia have been demanding new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners since November 28, 2024. Security forces carried out violent dispersals of the protests, using tear gas and water cannons, and detained protesters.
