An Astrakhan resident has been detained on suspicion of aiding Ukrainian intelligence agencies.

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) reported the arrest of an Astrakhan resident who, according to security forces, was collecting information on behalf of Ukrainian intelligence agencies.

Russian FSB officers conducted a series of arrests in several regions of the country. Among them was an Astrakhan resident who, according to security forces, was collecting information on defense industry facilities and transport infrastructure, as well as Russian military personnel participating in the Special Military Operations (SVO), on behalf of Ukrainian intelligence agencies.

The collected data was intended to be used to commit acts of sabotage and terrorism in Russia. Coordination and communication were carried out via the Telegram messenger, the FSB press service reported today on its website.

A criminal case has been opened against the detainee; he is accused of inciting preparation for a terrorist act, preparation for a terrorist act, assisting in sabotage 1 , and three other criminal articles of the Russian Criminal Code.

"It should be noted that for the cumulative number of crimes committed, the accomplices of the Ukrainian special services could face life imprisonment," the security agency said in a statement.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in early February, on suspicion of An Astrakhan region resident was taken into custody after attempting to set fire to a transformer in Akhtubinsk and to Russian security forces' official vehicles.
