A state of emergency has been declared in the Khunzakh District of Dagestan due to the threat of landslides in three villages.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," dozens of road sections in Dagestan were closed after floods, landslides, and in mountainous areas, after avalanches and snowstorms. Landslides destroyed homes in several villages, and a farm was completely destroyed in the Kulinsky District.

The head of Dagestan's Khunzakh District signed a decree on April 28 declaring a state of emergency throughout the municipality, Interfax reports.

The decision was made due to the intensification of landslide activity; the threat of landslides currently remains in three villages: Butsra, Tselmes, and Kharikolo.

Floods caused by heavy rains occurred in the North Caucasus in late March and early April and were among the most devastating in recent years. Six people died as a result of the flooding in Dagestan. Dagestan and Chechnya suffered the most from the natural disaster, according to the Caucasian Knot report "Spring Flooding in the North Caucasus - 2026".
