An evacuation has been announced due to the threat of flooding in two villages in the Gergebil district.

A rock slide has formed a lake, the rupture of which could lead to flooding in the villages of Gergebil and Kikuni, the local administration stated, calling on residents to leave the riverbanks, including stopping riverbed clearing work, and for those living near the floodplain to move to a safe place.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot", on April 11, 762 residential buildings, 812 garden plots, and 76 sections of roads remained flooded in Dagestan. As of April 11, 349 adults and 175 children evacuated from flood zones in Dagestan are in temporary accommodation centers. On April 9, the state of emergency in Dagestan and Chechnya due to flooding was raised from regional to federal.

The Gergebil District Administration issued a warning today. "Due to a rockfall in the Laksky District and the formation of a landslide lake, a threat of emergency has arisen. There is a risk of a natural dam breaking and a sharp rise in water levels in the riverbeds downstream," the statement reads. Authorities have prohibited people from staying near river banks. "Residents of houses located close to the river floodplain are advised to temporarily evacuate their homes and move to safer areas with relatives or temporary accommodation centers," the statement added. However, it does not indicate whether rescuers will participate in the evacuation.

The authorities also recommended "immediately stopping any construction, maintenance, or cleanup work in riverbeds and coastal areas" and "refraining from traveling on roads that run along river canyons and banks."
