More than 800 socially significant facilities were damaged by floods in Dagestan, with approximately 1.5 million residents in the emergency zone. The republic's emergency level has been raised from regional to federal amid forecasts of a third wave of floods.

As reported by Caucasian Knot, on April 7, it was reported that the body of 70-year-old Aminat Musayeva, who had been missing for three days, was discovered in Mamedkala. The pensioner became the sixth victim of the devastating flood.

Due to the floods in Dagestan, a regional state of emergency has been declared. A government commission led by Russian Emergencies Ministry Head Alexander Kurenkov announced that the state of emergency in Dagestan will soon be raised to federal status, Interfax reported today.

Sergey Melikov stated that the region supports raising the state of emergency status due to weather forecasts. "We are receiving an unfavorable forecast for the coming days. Given this, we support Alexander Kurenkov's proposal to raise the state of emergency status in light of the current situation," RIA Novosti quoted the head of Dagestan as saying.

About 1.5 million residents of Dagestan are affected by the emergency zone. More than 6,200 people, including 1,300 children, have been evacuated from flooded areas, Melikov said during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

More than 6,000 residential buildings, including apartment buildings in Makhachkala, Buynaksk, and Derbent, sustained varying degrees of damage, while more than 840 socially significant facilities were damaged. Federal Health Minister Mikhail Murashko clarified that more than 40 healthcare facilities were flooded in Dagestan.

Furthermore, in the Buynaksk District, 40 residential buildings were in the active zone due to intensified landslide processes. In the Derbent District, 258 residential buildings and their garden plots were flooded due to the breach of the Gedzhukh Reservoir dam.

Significant damage was inflicted on the region's agricultural sector. About 700 head of cattle, 2,200 head of small ruminants, and more than 60,000 head of poultry perished, Melikov added.

The flooding caused significant damage to roads: traffic was impeded or restricted on 27 sections of highway, including a section of the Kavkaz federal highway. Several railway bridges partially collapsed, and two sections of track were washed away. In total, approximately 2,100 residential buildings, over 2,000 garden plots, and 188 road sections remain flooded.

Roshydromet predicts that a third wave of flooding could reach Dagestan on April 11. A storm warning has been issued in Chechnya and Ingushetia for April 10, according to Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Alexander Kozlov.

The weather is expected to worsen again in Dagestan in the coming days. The republic's hydrometeorological service reported that heavy rain, downpours combined with thunderstorms, and winds up to 22-27 meters per second are expected in some areas of the republic on April 8-9. River water levels are forecast to rise to unfavorable levels, while heavy rainfall turning to snow is forecast in mountainous areas, as well as mudflows, according to the Telegram channel "Only Facts.
