Water levels in the streets of Derbent, which rose during heavy rains, have receded, city authorities reported.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," a state of emergency has been declared in 12 municipalities of Dagestan due to flooding. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, as of April 4, more than 1,000 residential buildings and 1,100 garden plots remained flooded.

The water level has dropped "on almost all the streets of Derbent," TASS reported today, citing Telman Radzhabov, head of the mayor's office press service.

Late in the evening of April 4, Radzhabov reported that "Very heavy rain" is falling in Derbent, according to Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

Following heavy rains in Derbent, the city's water supply was hyperchlorinated. Residents are advised to drink only boiled water for the next two to three days, the mayor's office announced.

"Heavy rains led to severe flooding. As a result, the Kaytag-Derbent and Samur-Derbent water supply basins were hyperchlorinated," Kommersant quotes the mayor's office as saying today.

According to the Caucasian Knot weather service, light precipitation is expected in Derbent today, followed by heavy rain on April 6.
