Water consumption has been identified as a likely cause of poisoning in Dagestan.

More than two dozen patients have been hospitalized with symptoms of poisoning in the Karabudakhkent district. Investigators have identified drinking water as the probable cause. Rospotrebnadzor has urged people not to drink untreated water in areas affected by the flooding.

From April 2 to 4, 21 patients with signs of intestinal infection, including 14 children, were hospitalized at the Karabudakhkent Central District Hospital. There are no severe cases, the Dagestan Ministry of Health reported today.

The main symptoms that prompt medical attention include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. A team of infectious disease specialists has been dispatched to the Karabudakhkent district and is working there. The Investigative Committee of Russia for Dagestan reported on an inspection, stating that the health of "more than 30 residents" of the Karabudakhkent district is presumably deteriorating. The flooding is related to drinking water consumption, the Dagestan branch of the Russian Federal District Committee reported today.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," a state of emergency has been declared in 12 municipalities of Dagestan due to flooding. By April 3, 43,000 residents of the republic have submitted applications for financial assistance.
