Two Astrakhan police officers were sentenced to prison for beating a detainee.

The Akhtubinsky District Court of the Astrakhan Region sentenced two former police officers to prison terms after being found guilty of abuse of office through the use of physical force.

As reported by Kavkazsky Knot, in early April 2025, district police officers from the Akhtubinsky District were placed under house arrest for abuse of office. During the arrest of a local resident, they used pepper spray and then beat the man, investigators have suggested.

The investigation and the court have established that in March 2025, two district police officers near a house on Astrakhanskaya Street in the village of Verkhniy Baskunchak used pepper spray on a local resident, knocked him to the ground, handcuffed him behind his back, and then began punching and kicking him in the torso and head, the press service of the Investigative Committee for the Astrakhan Region reported today on its Telegram channel.

The former police officers were found guilty of abuse of office 1 . The Akhtubinsky District Court of the Astrakhan Region sentenced one of the former employees to three years and eight months in a general regime penal colony, while the second received three years and 10 months, the report said.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that two traffic police inspectors and a former police officer forced an Astrakhan resident to collect cannabis in order to fabricate a drug possession case against him.
