The attack on security forces in Dagestan was the third in nine months.

Sources in law enforcement agencies reported a shootout in which two unidentified individuals allegedly opened fire on law enforcement officers were killed. However, there are no visible signs of a shootout in the photo of the car the victims were traveling in.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," the previous attack on security forces in Dagestan occurred when an unidentified man swung a knife at a security officer at the Dzhemikentsky checkpoint near Derbent on the evening of November 30, 2025. A police officer opened fire, killing the attacker.

Two militants killed in a shootout in Dagestan. "Preliminary reports indicate that two unknown individuals opened fire on law enforcement officers in the Karabudakhkent district. They were neutralized by return fire. A criminal case has been opened," a TASS source in the republic's law enforcement agencies reported.

Interfax published a similar report, citing its sources. The website and Telegram channel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Dagestan have not reported the incident as of 2:55 PM Moscow time.

On the outskirts of the village of Ullubiyaul in the Karabudakhkent district, two young men, aged 18 and 20, opened fire on security forces while checking a car. The shooters were killed by return fire. A carbine, two pistols with ammunition, and an improvised explosive device packed with nuts were seized from their car, the Sapa Telegram channel reported, citing its sources. The outlet also published a photo of a dark-gray VAZ-2115, presumably the one used to open fire on the security forces. Judging by the published photo, the car appears intact: there are no visible bullet or shrapnel marks on the body. The windows are visually undamaged, and the headlights and other exterior components also appear intact. There are no obvious signs of gunfire on the car.

Third attack on security forces since May 2025

According to the "Caucasian Knot," based on its own materials and information from open sources, this is the third attack by security forces since May 2025, when they were attacked in Makhachkala.

Two police officers were killed in the shootout, two more security officers and three civilians were wounded. The Investigative Committee announced that one of the attackers survived and is in the hospital, and also pleaded guilty. On May 12, he was taken into custody on charges of attempted murder of law enforcement officers, theft of weapons, and carjacking. Investigators announced a criminal case. Security forces have classified the attack on a traffic police unit in Makhachkala on May 5 as a terrorist attack and concluded that those involved in the attack had been planning it for about six months.
