Two fighters from Karachay-Cherkessia were killed in a military operation.

Oleg Balyasnikov and Temirlan Shungarov from Cherkessk were killed in combat. Since the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine, authorities and security forces have acknowledged at least 180 fighters from Karachay-Cherkessia as killed.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," by January 1, 2026, at least 178 fighters from Karachay-Cherkessia had been killed in the military operation in Ukraine.

Oleg Balyasnikov and Temirlan Shungarov were killed in the military operation in Ukraine, the Cherkessk administration reported today on Telegram.

A memorial plaque was unveiled at Education Center No. 11 to the killed participants in the military operation. The administration did not provide details about the soldiers' biographies or deaths in the statement.

Earlier, Cherkessk held a farewell ceremony for Sergei Shuvaev, a veteran of the Investigative Committee who died in the North Caucasus Military District (SVO) zone.
