A court in Nalchik sentenced a soldier for AWOL and serious crimes.

A military court in Nalchik sentenced a serviceman named Wilhelm to 21 years in prison for raping one woman and beating another while unauthorized from his military unit, who subsequently died from her injuries.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on September 24, 2022, Parts 2.1, 3.1, and 5 of Article 337, concerning unauthorized abandonment of a unit or place of service during mobilization, were introduced into the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The amendments provide for imprisonment for up to 10 years. Tighter legislation following the announcement of mobilization led to harsher sentences for absence from a military unit or desertion.

The Nalchik Garrison Military Court sentenced a Defense Ministry serviceman named Wilhelm, finding him guilty of committing crimes under paragraph "b" of Part 2 of Article 132 (assault without consequences), paragraph "b" of Part 2 of Article 131 (rape), Part 4 of Article 111 (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm), and Part 5 of Article 337 (unauthorized abandonment of a unit), according to a report published on the court's website on January 22.

The criminal case was transferred to the Nalchik Garrison Military Court from the Donetsk Garrison Military Court.

The court also found that he raped a woman in February 2025 and assaulted another woman in March of that year, who died from her injuries.

It is noted that Wilhelm had multiple prior convictions, but due to his military service contract and receipt of a state award, he was released from the unserved sentence imposed on him by district courts prior to his enlistment.
