Former Kuban Vice Governor Voronovsky has been arrested in a corruption case.

Moscow's Basmanny Court has remanded former State Duma deputy Anatoly Voronovsky into custody on charges of accepting a bribe on an especially large scale.

As reported by Caucasian Knot, at the end of November, Anatoly Voronovsky, who is being investigated for accepting a bribe on an especially large scale, filed for early resignation as a State Duma deputy. Voronovsky made this decision after the State Duma approved the stripping of his parliamentary immunity on November 11, following a submission from the prosecutor's office. Later, at a plenary session, the State Duma prematurely stripped Voronovsky of his powers as a United Russia deputy, upholding his request.

According to investigators, he received 25 million rubles from a construction company in Dagomys. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison, Kommersant reported today.

In his speech, Voronovsky stated that he will prove his innocence and does not intend to hide from the investigation; he surrendered his passport, TASS reports.

"By ruling, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow granted the investigator's motion to select a preventive measure in the form of detention for [former] State Duma deputy Anatoly Vladimirovich Voronovsky, accused of accepting a bribe on an especially large scale 1 ," the agency reported, citing the court's press service.

Anatoly Voronovsky was elected to The State Duma in 2021 was elected from an electoral district in the Krasnodar Krai. The deputy served on the Duma Committee on Transport. He oversaw the same area when he served as deputy governor, Kommersant reports.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that at the end of October, a court in Sochi sentenced Safarbiy Napso, former director of the Dagomys Road Repair and Construction Department, to four years in prison, finding him guilty of embezzling company property. The convicted man is the cousin of former Russian State Duma deputy Yuri Napso.

At the end of May, the court upheld the decision of State Duma deputies who voted to early strip Yuri Napso of his parliamentary powers. His representative claimed that Napso was stripped of his mandate due to an incorrect calculation of his absences from work. On October 8, it was announced that the Central District Court of Sochi upheld the prosecutor's office's claim and seized in favor of the state approximately 60 properties, which, according to the department, belong to Yuri Napso or his relatives. This decision has been appealed to a higher court, Napso's lawyer reported.
