Izi Aliyev arrested in bribery case

Dagestan parliament member Izi Aliyev has been remanded in custody on charges of bribery and abuse of power as head of the republic's social fund department. Investigators believe that a group led by Aliyev issued at least 5,000 illegal child benefits.

The Russian Investigative Committee has officially confirmed the detention of Dagestan parliament member Izi Aliyev. The case against the deputy under articles on abuse of office and the receipt of bribes by an organized group on an especially large scale (Part 3 of Article 285, Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) is being investigated by the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia with the operational support of the FSB of Russia.

The case concerns Aliyev's work at the Social Fund of Russia for Dagestan as the head of the department for providing for families with children.

According to the investigation, in 2023, Aliyev "created an organized criminal group, which included his subordinates, with the aim of systematically receiving bribes for making illegal decisions on the appointment of monthly benefits in connection with the birth and upbringing of children. The total amount of bribes received amounted to at least 12 million rubles. For monetary compensation, Aliyev organized the adoption of more than 5,000 illegal decisions on the appointment of such benefits."

At the request of the investigation, the court against Aliyev A preventive measure in the form of detention has been chosen, the statement said.

Another 16 employees of the FSB's Department for the Republic of Dagestan have been charged with criminal offenses. In addition, 11 citizens are suspected of bribery on an especially large scale, the agency noted.

The group members searched for local residents who did not have legal grounds for receiving state support measures through ads on one of the services, as well as on WhatsApp* and Telegram. The amount of damage caused is estimated at 1.4 billion rubles, Kommersant reports, citing the FSB Public Relations Center.

Attached to the statement is operational footage of Aliyev's arrest. As the video shows, security forces entered Aliyev's home through a fence at night and forced open the doors. His weapons were seized. The deputy's home is equipped with a billiard room, a fighting ring, and a gym, according to the recording.
