A resident of Karachay-Cherkessia received a lengthy prison sentence for treason.

The Supreme Court of Karachay-Cherkessia sentenced a 45-year-old resident of the republic to 14 years in a maximum-security prison colony, finding him guilty of treason.

As reported by Caucasian Knot, in early July 2024, a case of treason was opened against a resident of Karachay-Cherkessia.

According to the court, in August 2021, the accused began collaborating with a representative of the Security Service of Ukraine. On his instructions, he collected and transmitted information about FSB officers and the activities of security agencies via instant messaging. The convicted man's criminal activity was stopped by security forces in March 2024.

"He was found guilty under Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code (high treason) 1 . The court, taking into account the state prosecutor's arguments, sentenced him to 14 years' imprisonment in a maximum-security penal colony, a fine of 300,000 rubles, and a restriction of freedom for one year and six months," the regional prosecutor's office reported today on its VKontakte page.

The convicted man's name is hidden on the court's website. According to the court file, the case was filed on July 28, 2025, and the verdict was handed down today.

The "Caucasian Knot" also reported that a military court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced 37-year-old Yuri Boyko, a resident of Prokhladny in Kabardino-Balkaria, to 17 years in prison for attempted treason and participation in a terrorist organization.
