Rostovvodokanal director convicted of disclosing state secrets

The court sentenced Rostovvodokanal CEO Evgeny Yurkin to 1.5 years in a penal colony, finding him guilty of disclosing state secrets.

As reported by Caucasian Knot, at the end of June the court arrested Rostovvodokanal CEO Evgeny Yurkin, suspected of disclosing state secrets.

The Rostov Regional Court found the CEO Rostovvodokanal CEO Yevgeny Yurkin has been found guilty of disclosing state secrets. According to investigators, he sent a package of documents containing confidential information via unclassified email to the Rostov Region Ministry of Housing and Public Utilities. The information concerns, in particular, Rostov-on-Don's critical infrastructure and is classified as a state secret, TASS reported on November 13. Yurkin was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 283 of the Russian Criminal Code and sentenced to 1.5 years in a penal colony. The "Caucasian Knot" also reported that in 2023, Rostovvodokanal Chairman Georgy Svetlitsky was sentenced to five years in prison for fraud. In early September, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation filed a lawsuit demanding the seizure of the assets of former Deputy Minister of Fuel and Energy of Russia Stanislav Svetlitsky and former Mayor of Rostov-on-Don Mikhail Chernyshev, and the return of Rostovvodokanal shares to the state. At the end of September, the court upheld the Prosecutor General's Office's demand.
