The court upheld the verdict in the case of the collapse of the stands in Rostov-on-Don.

On May 30, 2023, in Rostov-on-Don, a grandstand collapsed on the grounds of a sports school during a football match between children's teams from Rostov-on-Don and Bataysk. A woman died, and dozens more were injured. A case was opened under the article on the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of a person through negligence (Part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). A second criminal case was opened under the article on negligence (Part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation; carries a sentence of up to five years in prison) against "unidentified officials" of Sports School No. 5. The investigation established that in 2022, the accused entered into a contract with the management of a sports school in Rostov-on-Don for the manufacture and installation of metal bleachers. Knowing that the structures did not comply with mandatory safety requirements, he illegally used a certificate of conformity issued without conducting the necessary tests and installed the stands on a football field, the press service of the Rostov Region Prosecutor's Office reported today on its Telegram channel.

As a result of the tragedy, one 45-year-old woman died instantly, and 56 people, 36 of whom were minors, sustained injuries of varying severity, the office clarified.

"The Rostov Regional Court agreed with the opinion of the prosecutor involved in the trial and dismissed the arguments of the appeals," the prosecutor's office said in a statement.
