Prosecutor claims Inal Djabiev's non-involvement in attempt on MIA head

Inal Djabiev, who died after being interrogated by law enforcers, and Nikolai Tskhovrebov were not involved in the attempt on the life of Igor Naniev, a former head of the South-Ossetian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the prosecutor stated on July 8, demanding to sentence Tskhovrebov to conditional imprisonment for arms trafficking.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in February 2021, a resident of South Ossetia, Nikolai Tskhovrebov, who was detained together with Inal Djabiev in August 2020, was charged with an attempt on Igor Naniev, the then head of the MIA. Tskhovrebov's mother treated these accusations as unjustified.

Seven law enforcers were accused for Djabiev's death; and Andrei Tskhovrebov, a Deputy MIA head, was removed from office.Djabiev's death sparked massive protests and a political crisis in South Ossetia

On July 8, at a sitting of the South-Ossetian Supreme Court (SC), the Prosecutor, Eduard Djioev, completely renounced the charges against the deceased Inal Djabiev and four episodes of the charges brought against Nikolai Tskhovrebov. He explained that his decision was based on the proofs of the above suspects' non-involvement in the assassination attempt on the MIA head. However, he has specified that the attempt had indeed taken place, the IA "Res" has reported.

Mr Djioev has added that there are grounds for convicting Tskhovrebov of illegal possession of firearms, and demanded to sentence him to three years of conditional imprisonment.
