Abdulkadir Isaev, Makhachkala activist, arrested

Abdulkadir Isaev, a resident of Makhachkala, who held a solo picket in Moscow in support of political prisoners, has been arrested on charges of possessing drugs and weapons.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 20, Abdulkadir Isaev reported his detention in Makhachkala. According to his story, a grenade and narcotic drugs has been planted on him. He has linked his detention with the picket held in February in Red Square in Moscow in support of political prisoners.

On April 24, the "OVD-Info" human rights project* informed that Abdulkadir Isaev was arrested for two months. A criminal case was initiated against him under articles on a large-scale illegal acquisition or possession of drugs (Part 2, Article 228, of the Russian Criminal Code) and on illegal acquisition or possession of weapons (Part 1, Article 222, of the Russian Criminal Code). He was placed in SIZO-1 (pre-trial prison) of Makhachkala.

So far, Isaev himself or his representatives have not commented on the arrest and the articles imputed to him.

*The project has been included by the Russian Ministry of Justice into the roster of unregistered public associations performing the functions of a foreign agent.
