Iritov challenges verdict for brawl with law enforcers

The defence of Aslan Iritov has appealed against the decision of the Nalchik City Court, which has found Iritov, an activist with amputated wrists guilty of using violence against a policeman.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 2, the above court sentenced Aslan Iritov to two years of conditional imprisonment. The verdict is biased, since the court failed to take into account the testimonies of the defence witnesses, Iritov himself stated after sentencing.

Aslan Iritov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that on September 9 his defence filed a complaint with the Supreme Court (SC) of Kabardino-Balkaria against the verdict of the Nalchik City Court.

On October 31, 2017, when members of the "Volny Aul" (Free Village) were going to hold a rally, law enforcers came into the yard of Aslan Iritov, the head of the organization, and warned him about the inadmissibility of an unsanctioned action. According to the prosecution, the invalid Iritov, who had his both wrists amputated, inflicted a moderate gravity trauma to Khamidbi Gubashiev, a deputy head of the "E" Centre (Centre for Combating Extremism). Iritov himself asserts that his family members received traumas; he is seeking criminal prosecution of law enforcers.

Experts have confirmed that Beslan Iritov had his rib broken during the incident, and Aslan Iritov's wife, Marina Iritova, had her finger broken. Aslan Iritov himself and his daughter Angelica also received bruises and abrasions. However, the institution of a criminal case was denied.

  • Rights defenders treat case of missing Movsar Umarov as typical for Chechnya
