Coordinator of Navalny's Volgograd office complains about poor conditions in custody

The inmates kept at the special detention centre in Volgograd have not enough clean bedding; there are no hygiene means there; and detainees are not given medicines, Evgeny Kochegin, the coordinator of Alexei Navalny's Volgograd office, has complained. He intends to appeal against his arrest at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

On January 29, after serving seven days of his arrest, Kochegin, was again taken to the police station because of "agitation at the special detention centre." Kochegin is being persecuted for political reasons, his colleagues believe.

"It is tolerable at the detention centre; but the logistics of detainees leaves much to be desired," the activist told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, there is no bedding there. "If a person is not from Volgograd, and no one brought him bed linen, he's doomed to sleep on a mattress or a bare bed," Evgeny said.

Besides, at first there was no even toilet paper there, but after a visit of an employee of the prosecutor's office, it appeared.

On January 23 and 31, mass actions were held throughout Russia in support of the arrested opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

According to Mr Kochegin, he plans to continue working at the Navalny's office. "Their goal was to intimidate and disorganize us," he has noted.
