Sources report detention of father of one of attackers in Chechnya

The father of the teenagers killed on August 20 during an attack on policemen in Chechnya has been kept by the law enforcers for almost three weeks; and members of his family are not allowed to live in their homes. This was reported by sources of the edition "Kavkaz.Realii".

On September 4, it became known that the families of assassinated teenagers left Shali. In his turn, Djambulat Umarov, the Chechen Minister for national policy, foreign relations, press and information, has announced that casualties' relatives continue living in their houses; and law enforcers have exerted "no pressure" on them.

The "Kavkaz.Realii" reports that a son, brother and nephews of the father of two brothers-attackers were released in late August. According to edition's sources, members of the casualties' families "were forbidden to live in their houses in Shali; and they are forced to huddle with their relatives."

Earlier, local residents reported that the authorities had planned to convoke a gathering in order to publicly condemn and expel attackers' relatives from Chechnya.

According to the calculations of the "Caucasian Knot", this is the sixth case in Shali in two years, when relatives of members of underground and people who are associated with militants were forced to leave their houses. The practice of eviction is still in force, despite the statement of President Vladimir Putin that the authorities of Chechnya do not have the right to use any pre-trial executions.

Let us note here that Ramzan Musaev, a former deputy Mayor of Shali, whose son, the 18-year-old Magomed Musaev, was called to be the organizer of the attack on law enforcers on August 20, on that very day publicly damned his son on air of the "Grozny" State TV and Radio Company.

  • Rights defenders treat case of missing Movsar Umarov as typical for Chechnya
