Dagestan: principal of boarding school involved in criminal case

The Prosecutor's Office suspects the principal of the Makhachkala boarding school "Zabota" (Care) of abuse of power.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 21, it became known that the Dagestani Prosecutor's Office began checking the information about ill-treatment of inmates of the boarding school for mentally retarded children "Zabota". Investigators have instituted a criminal case on the fact of failure to fulfil duties on education of minors in the boarding school.

It has been revealed that in the period of 2006-2011, the principal of the boarding school forced inmates to carry out agricultural activities on a country plot of land, located in the village of Semender, as well as to perform other works not related to therapeutic and labour activities and contradicting the statutory goals of the boarding school.

Earlier, an official of the Dagestani Ministry of Labour and Social Development has announced that Zaripat Umakhanova, the principal of the boarding school, filed a letter of resignation on her own after the checks carried out in the boarding school.

On March 22, at the meeting of the Security Council of Dagestan, officials reported that no serious violations were revealed during the inspection of the boarding school and proposed to install surveillance cameras in the building.
