Resident of Derbent sentenced for public justification of terrorism

The North-Caucasian District Military Court has sentenced Shamsutdin Asvarov, a resident of Derbent, to three years of imprisonment in a penal settlement-colony.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the criminal case against Shamsutdin Asvarov was brought to the court in December 2015.

In November 2014, the man posted on his "Classmates" page a video, which, according to investigators, contained calls aimed at inciting hatred and enmity on religious grounds. Furthermore, the investigators claimed that the video also contained phrases and statements which justified terrorism.

On January 22, the court pronounced the verdict to Shamsutdin Asvarov, reported the Dagestani Prosecutor's Office. The man was found guilty of committing crimes under Part 1 of Article 205.2 (public calls to terrorist activity or public justification of terrorism) and Part 1 of Article 282 (incitement of hatred or hostility, and humiliation of human dignity) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Let us remind you that on January 25, the Dagestani Prosecutor's Office reported that Adam Abduraev, a resident of the village of Kharachi of the Untsukul District, who held the post of the imam of a village mosque, was sentenced on the charges of justification of terrorism and incitement to terrorist activity. The court sentenced him to four years of imprisonment in a common-security penal colony.
