Call of Chechen Construction Ministry to save electricity outrages social media users

The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Communal Services and Energy of Chechnya has called on residents of the republic to limit electricity consumption in hot weather to avoid network overloads and blackouts. Authorities should provide the population with electricity on a stable basis, and not call for economy, social network users were outraged.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that regular power outages and voltage surges lead to the breakdown of household appliances and additional costs, residents of Chechnya complained back in February.

Residents of Chechnya are urged to reduce their electricity consumption by using only the most necessary appliances, the ChGTRK (Chechen State TV and Radio Broadcasting Company) "Grozny" reported, citing the above republic's ministry.

“The abnormal heat has caused a significant increase in the use of air conditioners, fans and other electric appliances ... This, in turn, led to overloads of power lines and electrical equipment. The ministry has explained that such overloads can lead to equipment damages and shutdowns. Experts strongly recommend that republic's residents take measures to reduce electricity consumption," the report says.

By 10:45 p.m. Moscow time, the Instagram* public page of the above TV company, which has 977,000 subscribers, received 139 likes and six comments to the report.

Instagram* commentators were sceptical about the call.

“It’s funny to hear, why not increase the supply rather than ask to save? It’s more profitable for you to have more consumers,” the user xamenyt has written.

“How is Dubai coping, and where does it get enough energy? I wonder if it’s eternally hot there,” the user boss_001_999 has asked.
