Rights defenders report that Albagachiev was denied medical care

The staff of the colony located in the Astrakhan Region has failed to react to the requests of Abdul-Malik Albagachiev, a native of Ingushetia, to help him; but when, two hours after the onset of an epileptic attack, a prison doctor came to the prisoner, he had no medicines. The advocate has demanded that a case on negligence be opened against the colony staff, the "Public Verdict" Fund* has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in August 2018, Abdul-Malik Albagachiev was sentenced to nine years in colony. According to investigators, since January 2015, he fought in Syria against government troops; and after returning to Russia, he kept a homemade grenade with him. Albagachiev stated that he was tortured during the investigation.

On February 21, 2023, Albagachiev's relatives reported deterioration in his health in the colony. The colony staff placed him under strict isolation, after which he had an epileptic seizure, his wife Maret said. Albagachiev's uncle Ismail Mankiev stated that his nephew acquired epilepsy after being tortured.

At the colony, during his next epilepsy attack, for about two hours Albagachiev was not provided with any medical care. All this time he lay on the cell floor. Despite doctors' recommendation not to leave Albagachiev alone due to his health state, this time he was left unattended, the "Public Verdict" Fund* has reported.

Prior to the attack, Albagachiev turned to the colony staff asking to provide him with medical care, as his health had worsened, but they gave no reaction to his request.

*The Fund (created in 2004) was labelled as "foreign agent" in 2014.
