A resident of Krasnodar has been sentenced to a long term for publications on Telegram

The military court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Krasnodar resident Igor Karlov to 18 years in a strict regime for administering a pro-Ukrainian Telegram channel. The actions described in the court's message are not related to violence or sabotage.

Karlov was charged with a total of five criminal articles: treason 1 , two episodes of public dissemination of fakes about the army motivated by political, ideological, or national hatred 2 , public justification of terrorism on the internet 3 , public calls for extremist activities on the internet 4 , and public calls for activities against the security of the state on the internet 5 .

According to the prosecution's version, between February 24 and June 1, 2022, Karlov, while in Krasnodar, established confidential communication with a representative of Ukraine and agreed to administer a public Ukrainian propaganda channel. From June 2022 to December 2024, he administered the channel – blocking users, posting publications, and checking new members.

Karlov, as the prosecution claims, posted "anti-Russian" posts on the channel and informed participants "about shelling and other negative events for Russia on its territory." He also published information about the possibilities of transferring money for the purchase of drones and ammunition for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to the court's message.

In January 2023, Karlov found personal data of three Russian servicemen on the internet and published it in the same channel. According to the court, this information was accurate, current, and could be used against the security of Russia.

The accusation of disseminating fakes about the Russian army is related to publications that Karlov made on June 9 and 14, 2023. The first reported the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station mined by Russian military, which the court recognized as "knowingly false information." The second post contained a false, in the court's opinion, "statement that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation began armed actions against Ukraine."

The accusation of justifying terrorism is related to a comment that Karlov wrote on June 15, 2023: according to the verdict, he justified the activities of the banned terrorist organization "Azov"*. On July 28 of the same year, the accused "published comments calling for violent actions" against Russians. In addition, he called on messenger users to provide financial, material-technical, and other assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the press service of the Southern District Military Court reported on its Telegram channel.

Karlov was sentenced to 18 years in a strict regime colony with a fine of 470,000 rubles. Whether the man agreed with the charges is not specified in the court's message.

Igor Karlov was born in May 1985 in the city of Rubezhnoye, Luhansk region. His data marked with a note of involvement in terrorism was entered into the register of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring on August 18, 2026. The case was submitted for consideration to the Southern District Military Court on March 20 and was reviewed over nine sessions. The verdict was issued today, and the name of the accused is hidden in the public registry.

The "Caucasian Knot" currently has no comments from Igor Karlov or his defense regarding the verdict and plans for appeal.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the Krasnodar Regional Court sentenced a resident of Crimea to a long term, finding him guilty of transferring intercepted radio communications of Russian security forces to Ukrainian intelligence.
