Mercedes team driver George Russell won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix of Formula 1, last year's champion, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, finished second.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the agreement to hold the Azerbaijan Grand Prix has been extended until 2030. Last year's winner in Baku was Red Bull driver Max Verstappen.

Mercedes driver George Russell became the winner of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, reports Oxu.az on September 26.

Last year's winner Max Verstappen from Red Bull finished second this time, while his teammate Isaac Adjar took third place.

After Russell's victory, Mercedes engines became the most victorious in the history of Formula 1, with the number of wins achieved by cars with these engines reaching 252. Thus, Mercedes surpassed Ferrari, which has 251 wins, reports RIA "Novosti".

The first stage of the Formula 1 World Championship took place in Baku in 2016 and was held annually until 2019. Ahead of the next racing stage in 2024, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree simplifying the visa issuance for foreigners and stateless persons who came for the competitions. The winner of the stage was McLaren driver Oscar Piastri.
