The Rostov resident is accused of setting fire to a locomotive at the station.

The case of a 23-year-old resident of Rostov-on-Don, accused of a terrorist act on the railway, has been submitted to the court.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in the southern regions of Russia, after the start of the military operation in Ukraine, there have been repeated arsons of infrastructure facilities - in particular, equipment on the railway. On September 14, it became known that the court sentenced a resident of the Rostov region to 20 years in a penal colony, finding him guilty of preparing a sabotage at a transport infrastructure facility on behalf of the Ukrainian special services.

The prosecutor approved the indictment against the 23-year-old resident of Rostov-on-Don, who has been charged with a terrorist act (part 1 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) at the Rostov-Glavny station, reported the Southern Transport Prosecutor's Office on the evening of September 23, which was noted by "Kommersant".

"The accused, having received an offer from another person, whose criminal case has been separated into a separate proceeding, set fire in December of last year to a locomotive belonging to the railway rolling stock, which was at the Rostov-Glavny station. After that, he recorded the committed illegal act on video," the version of the investigation is cited in the agency's Telegram channel.

The criminal case has been sent for substantive consideration to the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don, the message notes.

It should be noted that arsons of railway equipment are regarded by law enforcement as terrorist acts and sabotage, and in courts, the accused receive long prison sentences. Thus, in early September, the Southern District Military Court sentenced two minors and their 20-year-old acquaintance Ilya Doroshenko to imprisonment for up to 13 years for setting fire to a freight train's electric locomotive at the Rostov-Tovarniy station.

According to the investigation, in 2024, two teenagers - a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl - set fire to the cabin of the electric locomotive at the Rostov-Tovarniy station, and their 18-year-old acquaintance was paid 150,000 rubles for this. In October 2025, they were accused of committing a terrorist act.

At the end of December 2025, the court sentenced four residents of Kuban to long prison terms under the article on sabotage for setting fire to a relay cabinet on the railway.

In criminal cases, a typical formulation often appears: allegedly "unidentified persons" force people to film the arsons and then send them to the "customer". Such a plot in a large number of criminal cases indicates that investigators found a simple way to prove crimes, noted candidate of legal sciences Roman Melnychenko.
