A resident of Kalmykia has been arrested in a case of financing terrorism.

According to the investigation, the arrested person transferred money to the accounts of a member of a terrorist organization.

"Caucasian Knot" reported that in September, a court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced a resident of Kuban to a long term, who was caught by the FSB in money transfers to a certain terrorist organization.

Investigators have opened a criminal case in Kalmykia against a resident of the region for financing a terrorist organization; he has been arrested.

"From July 2020 to January 2021, a 36-year-old native of Kalmykia transferred funds to the accounts of a member of a terrorist organization that is banned in the territory of the Russian Federation. The investigative department in Elista of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Kalmykia has opened a criminal case against the man based on materials from the FSB for the republic," TASS reported, citing the press service of the Investigative Committee for Kalmykia.

The accused has been charged under part 1.1 of article 205.1 of the Criminal Code (financing terrorism), which provides for a prison term of eight to fifteen years. The man admitted his guilt in the committed crime, Interfax clarified.

The Investigative Committee for Kalmykia did not disclose which specific organization the arrested person is accused of financing and for how long he has been taken into custody.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Evgeny Kalganov, a native of Novorossiysk, to 16 years in prison, finding him guilty of financing terrorism and treason. Earlier, the Southern District Military Court sentenced Novorossiysk resident Evgeny Chernyshev to 22 years in a strict regime for the same articles.
