The abundance of algae on the city beach in Anapa has sparked criticism on social media.

Cladophora (sea lettuce) is important for the ecosystem and saturates the water with oxygen, but for the comfort of vacationers, it needs to be removed from the shore in a timely manner, noted an ecologist.

A video showing two women slowly making their way through a long coastal layer of algae to clean water was published today by the Telegram channel "Krasnodar Teletype".

"They are making their way through this mush of algae to some cleaner sea," a female voice off-camera says with laughter.

"The calling card of Anapa is the central city beach," the video description states.

"I wonder, can't they remove this algae? Can't they tidy up the beach? Bring in special equipment, remove the algae every night, make a proper gentle slope of sand? They complain that there are no tourists, but doing nothing to attract people is at least strange," writes V.

"This is always the case in Anapa, and it's nature! Read about these algae. There are many sanatoriums for a reason. Also read why and for what! Anapa has not only sand, but also pebbles," commented Lari_Aleksa, noting that knowledgeable people do not go to the city beach.

Other users felt that the video was misleading.

"I am in the center of Anapa at the beach, the water is clear, there is no greenery," wrote a commentator using a celebrity's name.

"We just returned from Anapa, I didn't see any algae at all. The water is clear. We were at 'Burevestnik'," writes Evgenia Z.

"If you want to swim without sea lettuce, you need to not be lazy and walk 200-300 meters, and you will definitely find a piece of perfectly clean water. We have chosen a spot a little to the right of the Pier on the central beach," Yuri Ozarovsky previously quoted one of the tourists in his blog.
