Former President of Armenia Kocharyan has been arrested for two months.

The court ruled to arrest former President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan for two months. Opposition representatives called the case against him political persecution.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on August 25, former President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and his son Sedrak were detained. After the detention, Robert Kocharyan felt unwell and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Robert Kocharyan recently underwent medical intervention, so the doctor deemed it necessary for additional medical examination after the hospitalization of the former President of Armenia. The Anti-Corruption Committee stated that after examinations, Kocharyan would be brought to court, where the investigation intends to petition for his arrest.

Former President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, who is accused of abuse of power, receiving a particularly large bribe, and money laundering, has been arrested. "Considering the public interest, it is hereby reported that the Anti-Corruption Court (headed by Judge Sarkis Dadoyan) fully satisfied the investigator's petition, and as a preventive measure against R. Kocharyan himself was hospitalized on the night of August 27 due to a deterioration in his health. He underwent heart surgery about two weeks ago.

The Vice-Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, a deputy of the "Strong Armenia" bloc Ara Vardevanyan, stated that the case against Robert Kocharyan raises serious legal questions.

According to Vardevanyan, this concerns circumstances that were known to law enforcement agencies back in 2018. There may also be questions regarding the statute of limitations. He also linked the events to statements from the country's leadership.

"If we look at the previously voiced political statements of the head of the executive power in the logic of direct instructions, then the political component here is so obvious that I don't even think anyone will deny it. Moreover, I notice that even representatives of the political power confirm the presence of a political component here. And this is indeed a troubling phenomenon because it is abnormal," the deputy stated.
