Residents of Makhachkala complained about the condition of the road

The road from the Khushetsky turn to the turn to the "Olivier" store in the Leninsky district of Makhachkala has been in poor condition for over eight years, and appeals to officials demanding its repair have not yielded results, local residents complained on social media.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", residents of Dagestan regularly complain about infrastructure and improvement issues. For instance, back in 2024, residents of the village of Samilakh, located on grazing lands, complained that they had to travel over 170 kilometers to see doctors, while the authorities did not allocate funds for road repairs. On June 7 of this year, they reported that the problem remains unresolved.

Residents of one of the suburbs of Makhachkala demanded attention from officials and relevant services to the emergency condition of the road towards the Turali microdistrict. The reason for the residents' appeal was an incident with a minibus. In a video published on July 25 on the Instagram* page tut.dagestan, it shows how the minibus was swaying heavily due to the bumps in the road, causing some passengers in the cabin to scream in fear. They then demanded that the driver stop the minibus and open the doors.

"According to the passengers of minibus No. 12a, on the section from the Khushetsky turn to the turn to the "Olivier" store, the vehicle was swaying heavily due to deep potholes, which nearly led to an accident. There were many passengers in the cabin, including children," the description of the video states.

Local residents say the road has been in poor condition for a long time. "They are asking for this section of the road to be repaired as soon as possible, as the safety of people should be a priority," the publication states.

This post on the Instagram* page tut.dagestan, which has about 1.6 million followers, had garnered 1787 likes and 178 comments by 10:50 Moscow time on July 26. Commenters, identifying themselves as local residents, confirmed that the road is in poor condition and needs urgent repairs.

"There is really a hole there, not a road. It's a pity for the cars that have to travel this road every day, although you can't even call it a road," noted raiska_paiska.

"The road there is truly impossible," noted amimi.mm.

"I know this street, and it really needs urgent road repairs. It's impossible to drive there," wrote mansur_magallaayy.

According to users, the problem has existed for several years, and residents are trying to fill the potholes themselves. Appeals to the authorities, as commenters claim, end with formal responses.

"This road has been in this condition for over eight years. Local residents are somehow trying to constantly fill these potholes themselves. But due to heavy trucks, the road turns back into an attraction," wrote user prosto_rimih.

"A monument should be erected to drivers for still driving on this road and transporting people. So many people write, where only local activists have not appealed – just formal replies. It's simply disgraceful," wrote alieva__patimat07.

"Let's do without the cries of the soul, anyway, we, the common people, will not be heard," believes laser_lash_mahachkala.

Some participants in the discussion shared dangerous situations encountered while traveling on this road.

"We were also traveling that day with my disabled son in this minibus. The driver wanted to avoid the potholes and turned onto another road, but it turned out to be even more dangerous: the minibus tilted, and we all nearly fell into a ditch. People screamed in panic and started jumping out of the moving minibus," wrote ki_ka_omarova_999.

"Until an accident with casualties occurs, officials and responsible persons will not start repairs or inspections," stated user tsodorova_rostov.

As of 10:50 Moscow time on July 26, there are no comments on the Makhachkala administration's website regarding the complaints of local residents about the condition of the road.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that residents of Dagestan regularly solve various problems on their own. In particular, on March 4, 2024, residents of Makhachkala independently carried out patch repairs on the roads. On January 4, 2024, residents of one of the highland areas of Dagestan repaired a road connecting four villages at their own expense. On December 3, 2022, residents of the village of Djugdil in Dagestan spread a video online showing that they were forced to improve the roads themselves after receiving a refusal from the authorities in response to their requests for this.
