The Constitutional Court of Armenia has retired to the deliberation room to make a decision on the case regarding the invalidation of the parliamentary election results held in Armenia on June 7. The applicants have presented all grounds for reviewing the election results, but the authorities raised the salaries of the Constitutional Court judges before the elections, which could be related to possible lawsuits challenging the results, the opposition indicated.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", seven parties have challenged the Central Election Commission's final decision on the parliamentary elections in the Constitutional Court. The court has combined all complaints into one proceeding. "Prosperous Armenia," which, according to the CEC, did not overcome the four percent barrier, demanded on the second day of the process to change the vote counting mechanism. On June 28, the third day of the hearings, the CEC proposed to the court to reject all applications demanding a review of the election results or a new vote. On the fifth day of the session, the Constitutional Court of Armenia partially satisfied the requests of "Strong Armenia," checked the envelopes for ballots directly in the courtroom, and limited further submissions of requests.

"The CEC not only miscounted the votes received by the party, but they were also incorrectly transferred to the final table. This is a fundamental problem: it is one thing when we make mistakes in counting at the polling station — the tool for this is a recount, and it is quite another thing when the counting was done correctly, the protocol was drawn up correctly, but the CEC cannot properly input these figures. The Constitutional Court, as a representative of the people, is obliged to restore constitutionality and is authorized to establish justice. The will of the people was for the PPA to enter parliament. The chairman of the CEC himself admits that if the results of the elections at these two polling stations had not been annulled, the PPA would have passed," the agency quotes him as saying.

If even one of the judges of the Constitutional Court has a legitimacy issue, it casts a shadow over the entire composition of the court, stated the representative of the "Strong Armenia" block, lawyer Aram Vardevanyan.

He noted that the arguments presented by the opposition in the Constitutional Court regarding violations in the elections were more than convincing.

The lawyer emphasized that the Constitutional Court has all the powers provided by the Constitution to give a proper assessment of what is happening, writes Armenia Today.

The "Strong Armenia" block stated that before the elections, "Civil Contract" adopted a law to raise the salaries of the Constitutional Court judges, the agency reports.

The representative of the block Artur Mikaelyan noted that the project was presented to the government back in January by Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan, who is now representing the ruling party in the Constitutional Court in the case challenging the election results.

According to him, the law provides for a significant increase in the salaries of the Constitutional Court judges, and the total amount for nine judges is 46 million 775 thousand drams (about 127 thousand US dollars).

Another representative of the block, Andranik Gevorgyan, did not rule out that the authorities might have considered possible post-election processes.
