Satellite monitoring has revealed a new threat of pollution in Taman from petroleum products.

The village of Volna and Cape Zhelezny Rog, which volunteers reported cleaning from fuel oil and palm oil five days ago, are once again under threat due to a fuel leak from a tanker located 10.5 kilometers from the shore.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", about 4 kilometers of the coastline along the village of Volna - from Cape Zhelezny Rog to the port of Taman - have been completely cleared of emissions, debris, and pollution. It is clean on the recently opened beaches of Veselovka, reported the "Dolphins" headquarters on June 25.

In Taman, 10.5 km south of Cape Zhelezny Rog, a tanker has been leaking fuel into the Black Sea since May. It was damaged during a drone attack. Since then, it has been leaking. This vessel, Aqua Live, was built in 2004. It is 248 meters long, 43 meters wide, with a carrying capacity of 105,000 tons, and sails under the flag of Cameroon.

Photos from June 13, 20, and 26 show an oil slick extending from the tanker for dozens of kilometers due to sea currents and wind, reported the monitoring channel Sky Eye.

The provided images for these dates show that the oil slick changes in length and direction relative to the vessel. The channel reported on May 27 that an oil slick was recorded in the Taman area.

On May 27, 2026, Sentinel-2 and Planet satellites captured images of the Black Sea waters near the Kerch Strait at 10-minute intervals. "The images show vessels south of the Taman Peninsula, with a pollution plume about 2.5 km long visible behind one of the vessels. This plume is apparently a discharge of oil-containing technical waters or a leak of petroleum products. The minimum distance from the oil stain to the shore is 8 km," the project reported at that time.

On December 15, 2024, two tankers carrying fuel oil sank in the Kerch Strait. As a result, a crew member of one of the tankers died.
