The FSB reported a foiled explosion in Novorossiysk.

A suspect in the plot to blow up an energy facility has been detained in Novorossiysk.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on May 20, a Krasnodar resident was taken into custody. Security forces supported their theory of treason and preparation for a terrorist attack with a video recording of the detainee's confession.

Russian FSB officers detained a 22-year-old resident of the Seversky District of Krasnodar Krai in Novorossiysk, suspected of plotting a terrorist attack on an energy infrastructure facility. According to the intelligence agency, he was recruited by an SBU officer via WhatsApp*. Investigators believe he was to blow up an energy facility in Krasnodar Krai using an improvised explosive device. The FSB clarified that the accused has admitted guilt and is cooperating with the investigation.

The suspect was detained while en route to a dead drop where he was to retrieve the explosives. According to the FSB, a homemade bomb containing approximately 2.5 kg of explosives and a mobile phone containing correspondence, which, according to investigators, confirms the preparation of a crime, were seized from him, Interfax reported, citing the FSB Public Relations Center.

The Investigative Department of the FSB Directorate for Krasnodar Krai has opened criminal cases under articles of preparation for a terrorist act, illegal trafficking of explosives, and treason.

In footage of his arrest and interrogation published by TASS, the detained young man said that he was allegedly contacted by an SBU officer identifying himself as Vladislav and promised a reward for the bombing. The footage also shows FSB officers running through the forest, detaining a suspect, and then finding a cache.

As a reminder, on May 13, the court arrested two Novorossiysk residents accused of transmitting data about military facilities in Novorossiysk Bay to Ukrainian intelligence services.
