A fighter from Dagestan was killed in a military operation.

Magomed Khanmagomedov from the Tabasaran district was killed in combat in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the Russian operation in Ukraine, at least 1,943 servicemen from Dagestan have been officially recognized as killed.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," by May 18, at least 1,942 soldiers from Dagestan had been officially recognized as killed in the military operation in Ukraine.

A memorial plaque bearing the name of Magomed Khanmagomedov, a graduate who was killed during a special military operation, was unveiled at the Khuryak school in the Tabasaran district, district head Magomed Kurbanov reported on his Telegram channel.

Magomed Khanmagomedov was born on April 4, 1995, in the village of Khuryak. In 2010, he completed ninth grade at a rural school and then continued his studies at Burgankent Secondary School. He later graduated from the Derbent branch of Moscow State University and went to work in Moscow.

In February 2022, he voluntarily went to the war zone in Ukraine and was killed on February 27, 2025. He was posthumously awarded the "Veteran of Combat Actions" medal, the "For Courage" medal, and the Order of Courage.

Khanmagomedov was unmarried; his mother raised him alone. According to his mother, he never even came back on vacation, the district head clarified in a statement.

Thus, at least 1,943 fighters from Dagestan have been officially recognized as killed in the military operation.

The number of soldiers from southern Russia killed in Ukraine has exceeded 9,100

The "Caucasian Knot" maintains a list of names of natives of the North Caucasus Federal District and the Southern Federal District killed in the military operation. The list is based on data officially released by government officials and security agencies, according to the "Caucasian Knot" report "North Caucasus Federal District Statistics: Casualties Are Mounting for Southern Russia".

As a reminder, Dagestan ranks first among the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District and the Southern Federal District in the number of those killed in the military operation, whose names have been officially released by the authorities. In February 2022, Dagestan Head Sergei Melikov was the first government official to announce that a Russian serviceman, officer Nurmagomed Gadzimagomedov, had been killed in Ukraine.

State awards, memorial plaques, and appearances on Channel One do not guarantee state support for the families of those killed, according to the Caucasian Knot article "Three Comrades Served: How Authorities Are Depriving Families of Killed Volunteers of Benefits," which describes the stories of the slain soldiers. The mother of slain Dmitry Ukhanov, for example, said she searched for her son's body for four months, while administration and military registration and enlistment office staff inquired from her about the progress of the search without offering any assistance.
