More than a dozen supporters of the Strong Armenia party have been detained on charges of giving and receiving election bribes.

As reported by the Caucasian Knot, a Yerevan court has begun hearing the case of Strong Armenia party leader Samvel Karapetyan. The defense has requested the defendant's release from house arrest to prepare for the June parliamentary elections.

According to the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia, law enforcement agencies conducted searches of the offices and homes of Strong Armenia party members in Artashat on the morning of April 16, following which arrests were made, News.am reported today.

Strong Armenia party member Hasmik Amirzadyan has been charged, and his pretrial detention is under discussion. This was stated by lawyer Lusine Martirosyan in a conversation with journalists outside the Anti-Corruption Committee building.

"I went up to see my client Hasmik Amirzadyan, but I have no information on the rest of the process, what the status is. We called the Human Rights Defender, the Anti-Corruption Committee hotline and asked them to eliminate this violation and ensure our immediate involvement. Amirzadyan herself does not admit the charges. She has five adopted minor children, and I hope this will be taken into account," the lawyer said.

On Thursday morning, several members and supporters of the opposition Strong Armenia party, as well as a woman from its election list, were detained, party council member Gohar Meloyan reported live on her Facebook page*.

"Since this morning, searches have been conducted again in relation to our party. Our supporters and a woman from our "The election list. It is extremely worrying that women are being targeted. However, we have already shown, and the Armenian people have shown, that when they try to isolate one person from the fight to defend the homeland, ten join our ranks instead of one," Novosti-Armenia quoted Meloyan as saying.

According to her, party representatives are being sent to the Anti-Corruption Committee, while law enforcement agencies are allegedly restricting access for lawyers.

In turn, Marianna Kagramyan, press secretary of the Strong Armenia party, told reporters that 15 people have already been detained. "One person has been charged with allegedly banning charitable activity," Kagramyan said.

As a reminder, Samvel Karapetyan's Strong Armenia party has announced its intention to participate in the National Assembly elections, which will take place on June 7. According to analysts, the parties of Karapetyan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and former President Robert Kocharyan will be key competitors in the elections.

The most pro-Russian parties in the Armenian parliamentary elections are Samvel Karapetyan's "Strong Armenia," Robert Kocharyan's "Armenia," and Gagik Tsarukyan's "Prosperous Armenia."
