The restriction was introduced due to the high risk of avalanches on the Gudauri (Posta) – Kobi section, the North Ossetian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.

Russian tourists reported that an avalanche had occurred, leaving the roads heavily snowed in before snow removal equipment had even reached the highway. Many were traveling with children, and one young woman was worried she might not make it in time for the anniversary of a relative's death. Users of the Verkhniy Lars Telegram chat confirm that traffic jams at the border are severe.

We left Tbilisi today around 2 PM, drove to Gudauri, and were stuck there for two hours.
