A soldier from Kalmykia was killed in Ukraine.

Nikolay Ustyantsev from the Maloderbetovsky district was killed in combat. Since the beginning of the Russian operation in Ukraine, authorities have acknowledged at least 209 servicemen from Kalmykia killed there.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," by January 6, authorities had released the names of at least 208 fighters from Kalmykia killed in the combat zone in Ukraine. Among the latest to be officially named by officials is Rustam Zharkanaliev from the Kamyzyak district.

The name of another soldier from Kalmykia was released by the administration of the republic's Maloderbetovsky district, which reported on the unveiling of a memorial desk at Tundutovskaya Secondary School.

"After graduating from Gorodovikovo Secondary School, he entered Maloderbetovskoye Vocational School No. 3 to become an auto mechanic. In 2002, Nikolai was drafted into the Armed Forces in the North Caucasus Military District. He took part in the armed conflict in the Chechen Republic," the district administration reported on its VKontakte page.

He was killed on October 10, 2024, during a special military operation, the administration clarified.

In October 2025, authorities reported the deaths of two soldiers from Kalmykia's Maloderbetovsky district - Pavel Lushchaev and Naran Sandzhiev.

Authorities have acknowledged at least 8,450 soldiers from southern Russia killed in the North Caucasus Military District (NVO) zone.

Thus, at least 209 servicemen from Kalmykia have been officially recognized as killed in the combat zone in Ukraine. The "Caucasian Knot" maintains a list of names of natives of the North Caucasus and Southern Federal Districts killed in the military operation. The list was compiled based on data officially released by government officials and security agencies, according to the "Caucasian Knot" report "Northeastern Military District Statistics: Losses Are Growing for Southern Russia."

According to the "Caucasian Knot," by January 1, government officials and security agencies had officially recognized at least 8,400 fighters from southern Russia as killed in the military operation: 4,151 from the North Caucasus Federal District and 4,249 from the Southern Federal District.
