Five people were injured in a gas explosion in Shali.

Three adults and two children were hospitalized after a domestic gas explosion in a private home in Shali. Investigators are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

The incident in Shali was reported this evening. A gas explosion and fire occurred in the private home where five people were staying.

Among the five injured were two young children, both born in 2025. All were taken to the hospital. "According to preliminary information, the gas leak was caused by a faulty gas stove," the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Chechnya said in a statement.

According to investigators, doctors have assessed the condition of the victims as moderate.

The injured in Shali were taken to the Kadyrov Republican Clinical Hospital and Children's Clinical Hospital No. 2 in Grozny; they suffered burns of varying severity. On January 5, doctors plan to consult with the burn center of the Nizhny Novgorod Research Institute to determine treatment strategies for the injured children, TASS reported, citing Health Minister Adam Alkhanov.

Forensic examinations have been ordered to determine the cause of the explosion. The republic's prosecutor's office, in turn, reported that it is monitoring the investigation.

One resident, a man, died, and three others were hospitalized. Sochi City Hall evacuated residents and declared a state of emergency.
