Security forces visited Tamara Mearakishvili's home after she announced her hunger strike.

Five security officers are stationed outside the door of civil activist Tamara Mearakishvili's apartment in Tskhinvali. Tamara Mearakishvili herself told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by telephone.

"I'm not home right now; my friends who came to see me told me so." "The security forces knocked long and persistently on the door, and they also knocked on the neighbors' doors, asking for their information," she said.

This afternoon, Mearakishvili announced on her social media page that she would be going on a hunger strike starting tomorrow in protest against "the arbitrary exercise of power, the complete disregard for the law on civil service, labor legislation, and her rights."

"Today, I once again called the president's reception office and asked for a meeting. I informed them that if he doesn't see me today, I'll be going to Tskhinvali's central square tomorrow for a solo picket against corruption. "I am certain that the security forces' raid on my home is connected to this," Mearakishvili told the Caucasian Knot.

Mearakishvili also contacted the speaker of the republic's parliament, Alan Margiev, several times in recent days on her page, requesting a meeting. She said she also submitted the request through the parliament's reception office, but to no avail.

As the Caucasian Knot reported, South Ossetian activist Tamara Mearakishvili has been unable to obtain a new passport for over a year, preventing her from even traveling within the republic or finding employment. She believes the authorities' actions are linked to her critical statements on social media.

In February 2024, journalist and activist Tamara Mearakishvili went on a hunger strike, demanding that the South Ossetian Prosecutor General explain his decision to appoint David Gurtsiev, who had prosecuted her in a criminal libel case, as Leningor District Prosecutor. By February 13, there had been no response from the president or the Prosecutor General to her appeals, Mearakishvili said. Three days later, Mearakishlivi ended her hunger strike, failing to overturn the decision to appoint David Gurtsiev as district prosecutor.
