Krasnodar residents demanded that the construction of a highway near their homes be prevented.

Residents of Kurchatov Street in Krasnodar called on authorities to reconsider plans to build a highway on the site of a green recreation area near their homes. Appeals to officials, they complained, have gone unanswered.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," in July, residents of buildings on Kurchatov Street near the Aurora Cinema in Krasnodar recorded a video message to Governor Veniamin Kondratyev, expressing their disagreement with the authorities' plans to build a highway near their homes. They pointed out that the area where the roadway is planned to be built includes playgrounds and a green area for recreation.

Residents of Kurchatov Street complained about the lack of dialogue with the authorities following their appeals, 93.ru reports today. They said they'd written to the administration, requesting meetings with officials and Mayor Yevgeny Naumov, but so far no one has heard them, and during the design process, no one explained to residents exactly how the road would run.

Residents stated that they oppose the construction of the road past their homes. "Krasnodar is a large, beautiful, and green city. We should be thinking about building a metro here, not ruining the lives of residents," the newspaper quoted a local resident as saying.

"We don't need your highway. If you want to build a highway, create better conditions for the people. Are you trying to remove a green space where children play? We don't understand that and will try to prevent it. We have a one-way road; do you want us to go straight onto the highway? We have a school here, and children play. Are we going to play on the highway?" - Another local resident appealed to officials in absentia.

Another local resident expressed the opinion that the road "will greatly worsen the environmental situation," and children will lose their playgrounds.

As a reminder, residents of the Yubileiny microdistrict of Krasnodar are also fighting to preserve the green recreation area. They are demanding that construction on the Rozhdestvenskaya embankment, where a church is planned to be built – the third one in the microdistrict, be prevented. On November 30, hundreds of neighborhood residents gathered to record a video message to the governor.

Earlier, despite numerous protests from Yubileyny residents, Krasnodar authorities rejected all objections to the embankment development, but took into account the position of those supporting the church construction. Residents are confident that only the attention of federal authorities will help prevent the development of the green recreation area. Together with representatives of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, they began collecting signatures demanding the resignation of Mayor Yevgeny Naumov.

In September 2024, activists in the Yubileyny neighborhood collected signatures for a petition to the governor against the development of the Rozhdestvenskaya Embankment. More than 3,000 signatures were collected. Residents of the neighborhood actively protested against the development of the embankment, arguing that it was the only major recreation area in the neighborhood. However, in November 2024, city council members adopted a new general plan despite their protests.
