A Baku court dismissed Bahruz Samedov's complaint against his placement in a punishment cell.

A Baku court dismissed the complaint against political scientist Bahruz Samedov's placement in solitary confinement. The prison administration appealed to the court to have Samedov transferred to a closed prison.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," 29-year-old political scientist and doctoral student at Charles University in the Czech Republic, Bahruz Samedov, was sentenced by a Baku court to 15 years in prison on charges of treason. An appeals court upheld the sentence. On October 22, it became known that Samedov was in solitary confinement: the prisoner's grandmother came to visit him at Colony No. 11, but was told that a meeting with Samedov was impossible until October 25.

Today, the Binagadi District Court of Baku heard Samedov's complaint about his placement in a punishment cell at a visiting hearing in Correctional Facility No. 11, activist Amrakh Takhmazov told a Caucasian Knot correspondent. He recalled that Samedov was initially placed in solitary confinement for five days, and then his detention there was extended for another month.

According to Samedov, Samedov himself and his lawyer, Zibeyda Sadygova, testified at the trial. The court dismissed the complaint, citing that it was not subject to trial in the courts of general jurisdiction and should be appealed to the Baku Administrative Court.

"Today in court, it became known that the management of Correctional Facility No. 11 filed a complaint to tighten Bahruz's punishment and transfer him to the closed section of the Umbaki penitentiary complex," Takhmazov noted. However, since the lawyer was not notified of this trial in advance and had other cases scheduled, the hearing was postponed.

Sadigova's lawyer confirmed to a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that Samedov's placement in solitary confinement was unjustified. The defense also disagrees with the harsher punishment regime for him.

The Binagadi District Court confirmed the information about the mobile hearing at Correctional Facility No. 11. However, the employee had no information about whose cases were being heard at the colony.
