Zarema Musaeva accused of disrupting operation of penal colony

Zarema Musaeva has been accused of disrupting the operation of the penal colony. She faces up to five years of imprisonment.

On November 19, it became known that Zarema Musaeva, involved as a suspect in a new criminal case on an attack on a law enforcer, was transferred to a SIZO (pre-trial prison) in Grozny. Zarema Musaeva moves on crutches, and she is not taken to a hospital. In November, in Chechnya, law enforcers interrogated Zarema Musaeva for the first time in the criminal case on the attack on a penal colony employee.

Zarema Musaeva does not admit guilt and denies the investigators’ version, according to which she allegedly hit an officer of the federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) and tore off his shoulder strap, the “Team Against Torture”* reports. Under the new charge, Zarema Musaeva faces up to five years of imprisonment, reports her advocate Alexander Savin.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on June 27, the Shali City Court for the second time rejected a request for conditional early relief (CER) of Zarema Musaeva. The court explained that she had failed to compensate for the damage in the fraud case and was placed on preventive registration list in the penal colony. On November 12, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya returned the motions for the Zarema Musaeva’s CER to the Shali City Court for a new consideration.

*The “Team against Torture” (TaT, formerly the “Committee against Torture” – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.
