Israeli authorities treat its citizens' stay in Southern Russia as dangerous

The Israeli National Security Council (NSC) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) have raised the level of danger for country's citizens in Northern Caucasus and a number of neighbouring regions up to the maximum, recommending their fellow countrymen not to travel to these regions or leave them as soon as possible.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 29, mass riots occurred at the Makhachkala Airport, which followed reports of the arrival of a plane with passengers from Israel posted in social networks. More than 20 people were wounded, including nine policemen. Law enforcers detained 83 rioters and took the synagogues located in Dagestani cities under guard.

On October 26-29, mass anti-Semitic actions were held in three republics of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD). In Cherkessk, protesters demanded that visitors from Israel not be allowed in; and in Nalchik, the Jewish cultural centre was burned down. In Khasavyurt, Dagestan, hundreds of people gathered at a hotel after reports in social networks that refugees from Israel had been accommodated there.

The Israeli NSC the Prime Minister and the MFA have announced an increase in the threat level for Israelis in Northern Caucasus.

The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that on August 1, 2019, Israel assigned Chechnya the highest level of threat and called for avoiding travels to the republic "due to the presence of terrorist organizations in Chechnya that could harm Israelis." Ramzan Kadyrov then treated that call as absurd, since there were no terrorists in Chechnya.

Today, Kadyrov has stated that anti-Semitic actions in Chechnya were prevented with the help of the media, which "had warned residents."

At the same time, on October 28, the North-Caucasian Muslims' Coordination Centre has treated any anti-Semitic actions as inadmissible.

The events at the Makhachkala Airport and anti-Semitic actions in Khasavyurt, Cherkessk and Nalchik are atypical for Northern Caucasus and Russia as a whole, the Russian Jewish Congress has stated.
