Social media users criticise Dagestani MP for calling to annex Kazakhstan to Russia

According to Facebook users, the proposal of State Duma member Biysultan Khamzaev to annex Kazakhstan to Russia is populism. Biysultan Khamzaev must remove the posts with his proposal as not to dishonour natives of Dagestan, Instagram users urge.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the chair of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), has granted the request of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, to bring the CSTO’s peacekeeping forces into the country. The contingent included units of the armed forces of Armenia, as well as Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. The advanced units of the Russian Airborne Forces have already arrived in Kazakhstan.

Biysultan Khamzaev, a member of the Russian State Duma Committee for Security and Anti-Corruption, spoke in favour of holding a referendum on “the reunification of Kazakhstan with Russia, its historical homeland”. “I support the holding of a referendum in Kazakhstan on the reunification of Kazakhstan with Russia, its historical homeland. I should note that Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, makes all his announcements in Russian. I believe the holding of such referendum will be a good manifestation of genuine democracy!” State Duma member Biysultan Khamzaev, elected from Dagestan, has written today on his pages on Facebook and Instagram.

Facebook users reacted in a sharply negative way to the Biysultan Khamzaev’s proposal. “Well, I never expected to hear such nonsense from a State Duma member,” wrote Beslan Afaunov, an author of one of the most popular comments. “You don’t need to annex someone, you should not bring people to extreme steps. Officials should also take a little care of the people,” Zubair Gadjievich wrote. ”In Russia, the situation is the same with which the Kazakhs are fighting. Is there any point in joining?” Madina Akhilgova expressed her surprise.

Other social media users considered the Biysultan Khamzaev’s post as dishonour for natives of Dagestan. “Do not disgrace brothers from Dagestan, remove your post,” Zhandos Kazhibaev urged the State Duma member, in particular.
