A native of Chechnya apologizes to Ramzan Kadyrov for coming-out

On the air of the Chechen TV Channel, a native of Chechnya, who lives in Germany, has apologized to the authorities of the republic and explained that he was forced by Western journalists to announce his homosexuality.

"They have disgraced me in front of the Chechen people and the ruler, I was deceived. So, I apologize to residents and the authorities of Chechnya and Chechens living in Northern Caucasus and Europe," said the man. He has explained his act by the fact that he was taking antiepileptic drugs.

In September, a US edition published an article about a resident of Chechnya, who several years ago left for Germany and who could not obtain refugee status. The man said that he wanted to help other Chechen gays and called them "not to be afraid of anyone," reported the BBC Russian Service. The man also noted he was the first native of Chechnya who openly declared his homosexuality.

Only one resident of Chechnya complained about persecution for his homosexual orientation. This was reported on October 13, said Russia's Ombudsperson Tatiana Moskalkova. According to her, members of LGBT community use information about the persecution of gays in order to leave for foreign countries.

Full text of the article is available on the Russian page of 24/7 Internet agency ‘Caucasian Knot’.
